Hay comes first
Unlimited hay should make up most of the diet. It keeps the gut moving and wears teeth down naturally. Offer fresh hay every day and make sure it never runs out.
Space to move
Small cages are not enough. Rabbits and guinea pigs need room to run, stretch and hide. Aim for the largest enclosure your space allows, plus safe time outside it every day.
Worth remembering
Check teeth, claws and bottoms regularly and book a vet visit if anything looks wrong. Small animals often hide when they are unwell.
Keep them company
Both species are social and are usually happier with a companion of their own kind. Ask a rescue or vet about safe pairings, as some combinations do not work.
Add fresh vegetables and enrichment
Leafy greens make a good daily addition. Tunnels, chew toys and cardboard boxes give them something to explore. Introduce new foods gradually.
